Many riders in MSWA Ocean Ride in the past have fundraised in addition their registration fee - raising on average over $266 - to help people living with MS and other neurological conditions. Your registration fee helps cover the costs of running the Ocean Ride, but the aim of the event is to raise money for the cause. This year we are asking all riders to raise at least $100 to make sure we can do as much as possible to help those people living with MS and other neurological conditions and their families.
Raising $100 is easy - and most riders who fundraise, raise over $266 on average. We’ll support you 100% of the way with easy ways to raise money online. If you don’t want to fundraise, you can make your own tax-deductible donation of $100 to secure your spot. If you don’t raise your $100, you won’t be able to ride.
No, all registration fees are non-refundable.
Yes, but on the day registration fees are higher. Our 'New Registration' desk will be open from 5:45am in Fremantle (for 30km, 50km, 70km & 100km riders) and 7:30am in Hillarys (for 10km Family Riders). Please ensure that you allow yourself plenty of time to arrive, register and get ready to ride. 100km & 70km Riders will be departing at 6:40am (6:30am compulsary briefing), 50km & 30km Riders will be departing at 7am (6:50am compulsary briefing) and 10km Family Riders will be departing from 8:30am.
The 30km, 50km, 70km and 100km rides start at the Esplanade Reserve, Fremantle.
The 10km Family Ride will start (and end) at Whitfords Nodes, Hillarys.
That depends on your fitness and experience levels. More experienced and fit riders may be able to complete the course in an hour; others may take 5 hours. Remember the aim is to enjoy yourself, so don’t worry about speeding to the finish line, and take time to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.
Please aim to arrive half an hour before your Ride is scheduled to start. This will allow you time to collect your ride bib if you haven't already, warm-up and make your way to the start-line for your ride.
We suggest that you take only what you need for the ride – water, rain jacket, and a small amount of food. However, if you bring extra items, you can utilise our cloaking facilities - all items that are cloaked at the start-line will be delivered to the finish line and will be available for collection from the MSWA marquee. All care will be taken but we accept no responsibility for lost or damaged items.
We will have lots of volunteers and staff working along the route, as well as bike mechanics and first aid personnel, who will be ready and happy to provide help to anyone whose bike might break down, feel ill or experience other difficulties. We recommend that you have your bike serviced before the ride and carry a puncture repair kit and pump. If your bike breaks down, turn your bike upside down and wait. If we cannot get you going again or you feel you cannot complete the ride, we have a bus and trailer that will collect you and your bike, and transport you to the finish site. Our support vehicles will be clearly marked with MSWA Ocean Ride signage.
We have done everything possible to make the course safe. The route has mostly left-hand turns, which means you are not turning across traffic. However, there are some right hand turns in the longer rides. If you follow basic road safety rules, drink plenty of fluids and follow instructions from route marshals, you’ll have a safe and enjoyable ride.
We understand that some parents may feel their children can ride the longer distances comfortably and safely, however, we have to consider the impact this may have in general. Safety remains our number one priority due to the number of riders and difficulty of the course, we are unable to accept entries of riders under 12 years of age for the 30km, 50km, 70km and 100km. There are some important reasons why the rides are not suitable for certain ages:
You are making a valuable difference to someone’s life. Funds raised through MSWA Ocean Ride help MSWA to support people living with MS and other neurological conditions in Western Australia.
Every dollar raised goes to MSWA to provides services, support and care to the thousands of Western Australians living with MS and other neurological conditions. Things that are important to people during their journey, like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, counselling and funding for research into the cause and cure for all neurological conditions.
You can enter monies that you collect as offline donations through your fundraising page. If you’re unsure, or you need help, please contact the MSWA Ocean Ride Team on (08) 6454 3131 or email us and we’ll talk you through it.
