Event Date: Sunday, 26 November 2017

MSWA will once again be hosting its annual MSWA Ocean Ride on Sunday, 26 November. This is a unique cycling event, following our beautiful coastline from Fremantle to Hillarys. Improved traffic management for the event allows all cyclists to stay on the left of the road alongside the ocean. We’ve got five ride options to choose from, which cater to all ages and fitness levels;

  • 10km Family Ride
  • 30km Ride
  • 50km Ride
  • 70km Challenge
  • 100km Challenge - NEW!

10km Family Ride

Start point: Whitfords Nodes, Hillarys

Finish point: The 10km Family Ride begins at Whitfords Nodes Hillarys, follows the established bike path 5km north to Mullaloo, then returns to Whitfords Nodes.

Age Restrictions: None – This ride utilises existing footpaths along the coast and is suitable for children. Children riding must be accompanied by a consenting adult and must be able to balance proficiently on their own bike or have the attached bike carrier to the supervising adult.

30km and 50km Rides

Start point: Esplanade Reserve, Fremantle

Finish point: Whitfords Nodes, Hillarys

Age Restrictions: You must be over 16 years or over to participate in these rides.

70km & 100km Challenges

Start point: Esplanade Reserve, Fremantle

Finish point: Whitfords Nodes, Hillarys

Age Restrictions: You must be 18 years or over to participate in these rides.

The 70km & 100km Challenges start at the Esplanade Reserve, Marine Terrace in Fremantle. The ride will take you inland and up Reabold Hill, around Herdsman Lake, through to Ocean Reef and back to Whitfords Nodes, Hillarys. This ride is both scenic and challenging. We recommend that you enter this ride with a team, however solo riders are permitted.

The terrain for the Challenges is described as ‘undulating’. Although this route follows the coast, there are some hill climbs included as an added challenge! You will be required to ride off from Fremantle towards Port Beach under neutral conditions guided by a safety vehicle which all riders must follow behind at no more than 25km/h until we clear Tydeman Road.

Traffic Regulations

As per road traffic regulations and safety, there will be specific cut off points for these distances. You will be required to qualify with at least 23km/h of average speed (average speed over a 20km flat distance) to avoid the cut off points - these will commence after Whitfords Nodes, Hillarys.

Note: Course Maps will be available closer to the event.
